Speaking of After Effects, I just upgraded to Mtn Lion from Snow Leopard. One difference is I used to be able to export a QT movie out of AE that was uncompressed. Now that option is gone, have to compress it with one of the many options. I have a sound added so I can't export stills. The uncompressed will give me more options as i create different formats.

I see that back bumper map is off. Maybe this tutorial will help get maps in better that use UV's. Tomas helped me out and I made a pdf. http://intuitionusa.com/Resources/UVPeople.pdf

As far as organizing models, I just make them consistent. Folders are the same name in different projects. I organize my models by subject with a preview rendering next to the model file. I see that DAZ has tons of people models. Do you ever use any of these? It would be good to get some of them at medium resolution mapped out.

Yea, I remember I could only have a total of 2 or 3 images. I like that car rendering. Did you buy that on the Daz web site? How did you make the grass?

Hey Mark, You might want to check and see if you are not over the limit.

Ah ha. Have to have the bullet sessions window "open" when pressing the preview button in order to solve....
-
Hello, Just so others can learn, I am having some issues with Bullet solving or moving objects. I sent a file to Tomas and it after increasing the force from 1 to 10 it worked fine for him. I had done that myself and it did not work for me. : / I even took the file Tomas sent me, reset it, and tried to solve it by hitting the preview button. It just does nothing. I tried it on both of my macs and both are running Mountain Lion. I was able to get a solve when I when I was using snow leopard a month ago. Anyone using Bullet on Mtn Lion????? here is the file https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5048027/houtzager.zip

I have just been turning on Sky Light in the GI settings when I want ambient occlusion. It has been working well for me for stills, however sometimes animations look better without the occlusion. http://www.intuitionusa.com/1/sky.jpg

importing formz exported facts with texture maps
S. Houtzager replied to S. Houtzager's topic in EIAS General Forum
Here is a sample: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5048027/fz_to_ei.zip it has 3 objects and 2 of them have a tiff map on them. It is a fairly large tiff file. Will not render, get camera error message. -
Just wondering how the importing of FormZ files w texture maps into EI is going? As of now, when the models w texture maps go into EI all of the objects turn a semitransparent purple. FormZ is shifting the blame as they say they have not done anything different. Getting maps into EI would be the boss for the architectural work I get because I have to do quick renderings in FormZ and then export to EI to do animations.

SSD Comments And Feedback related to EI Performance
S. Houtzager replied to supernovavfx's topic in EIAS General Forum
About a year and a half ago I bought a SSD drive and put FormZ and Maxwell on it and tested the render times. No difference vs regular hard drive. Now a 7200 speed hard drive could make a difference with render times vs a 5200. -
Hmmmm, I would go worn everything or all newish. You have just the fingerboard worn, but the main body could be worn showing bare wood, the chrome could be nicked, a few dings here and there to match the fingerboard. The all newish version rocks.

What is the bit level of the sky file? If it is 32 bit then it has more range.

I used a different technique by creating a selection mask to isolate the background in PShop and painted the transition. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/5048027/backs.jpg

Having some fun with V9. Personal project, I would do a better job with the lights if I was getting paid. Render region is soooo much better in V9. Can you figure how I did that floor? https://dl.dropbox.com/u/5048027/Tractor_test_back.jpg https://dl.dropbox.com/u/5048027/Tractor_test_33.jpg

Thanks.

Hey, How do you make a shadow catcher material aka just shows the shadow and nothing else for a floor? Used to know this.

This forum doesn't have em.

If you click on the circle in front of the name of the object, then you can re-order the list by dragging.
-
Yup it does. There is a video about the pluggin in the tutorials.
-
Yup it works fine. It even works ini 64 bit mode.
-
Play around with the Fresnel settings. The material sphere gives you an accurate preview. Also, a clear coat might help (with a shader) but I haven't tried that yet. http://www.intuitionusa.com/1/fernel.png

Northern Lights plugin development status update
S. Houtzager replied to Northern Lights's topic in EIAS Plug-ins and Shaders
Great News! -
It makes it possible to render out millions and millions of polygons plus it does it much quicker than making copies. If you have a scene with, for example, lots and lots of trees, EI may not be able to render it out unless the proxy pluggin is used.
