Thanks. In the animation I have to do we will simply see the car enter the rolling motion and the Protective bars extending. We will not see the car stopping nor the damage. So rodeo was OK for that.
-
Who told you about the Super Secret RollOver Plugin!!? I wish I knew what new things will be in V9... ;-)
-
Reelmotion... I wish... It's Rodeo.

Little fun with rollover demonstration... I had to illustrate the Rollover Bars protecting the passengers of a convertible triggered when the system detect a critical situation. The Wheel Hub will not be in the final animation... http://www.rdnmultimedia.com/eias/Rollover.mov

Yes, Leopard, Lion and window7 with a flick of the wrist... We're still good to go for quite awhile. Then, new and better tools will be available. I have fond memories of the old stuff but I'm always looking forward.

Mark, It was a .obj model imported with obj2fact.

Large body of work showing versatility. Nice, congrats. Note: Almost everyone in this forum speaks french. Only Tomas doesn't. That is why we do it in english...:P

Some day someone will come in and say hey guys you simply forgot to do this simple thing before the simulation... Well, I tried V7, V8, V9 with various cloth behavior and sizes but eventually the cloth explodes... I'll give it a rest for now... 1000X1500Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 2000X3000Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 2000X3000 not squeezed

I can't pinpoint the problem. The cloth itself can take quite a beating but, when squeezed, it will eventually "explode". I wish I knew why... http://www.rdnmultimedia.com/eias/Cloth_error.zip bend.mov

Joe, I counted the spheres, there is only 298 of them...:P Great job, congrats!

Way of knowing if Renderama is set up correctly

It's important to mention that you can use more strips than available slaves. I use an improbable image to illustrate. With 4 slaves, if you use 4 strips, the first 3 slaves will render their part in a jiffy and then go idle while the fourth slave will be working his a$$ off on the remaining part of the image. If you use 16 strips, all the easy part of the image will be rendered in a jiffy and all slaves will work equally on the remaining part. I usually use 24 strips. It also help if you are low on memory. -
Check this out!

I think we can Apu. Alonzo made a clothed walking character awhile back. Maybe he could give some pointers. The bunching might not be the problem. The bunching with these models seems problematic. Maybe retopologise the character so it has a simpler mesh under the arms. In the first Shreck "making of" they had the exact same problem (exploding polys) but they don't say how they fixed it... Try a booted Silo man with less polys, I didn't try that.

Apu, I played extensively with the file over the weekend to no avail. I have to say it's consistent though... The geometry explode around the same frame... Sorry I couldn't come with a solution, I tried with a fresh Silo model, tried with a denser mesh all with same problem. I'm suspecting the error occurs when the cloth gets squeezed in the armpits. But as I don't know the answer, everything is suspicious...:(

Wow Chip I remember this article! At that time I was using InfiniD and reading those impressive articles about Electricimage. We bought version 1.x but receive a brand new 2.0! Rendering the same model with similar lighting and shadows, Electricimage was 60 times faster! That really changed everything... -
Splitting... As a french speaking fellow I probably use some strange wording sometimes... But I think splitting is OK. When I buy these models (This one is from Dosch) it arrives in layers. But some layers are divided strangely... For example there is a Glass layer where you find all the windows. Now, if I have to open a door for example I might have to "split" the door layer, the glass layer and the interior layers to get the individual parts I need. http://www.rdnmultimedia.com/eias/EIAS_Car.mov

Nice! I really love reading these old articles. -
Welcome to the Forum Kishore. It's nice to see you here.:D

Apu, I cannot open your file for you use Alonzo's Salesman rig to animate your character. I will have to check if I still have this rig at home tonight. Anyway, I made a new project using your models and animated it with some simple deforms. It seems to work all right. The cloth might be touching the character in the initial setup. If so, you should move it a bit up before doing the simulation. I used springs for the cloth behaviour, Stretch and shear will hang the cloth closer to the body. A tolerance of .5 will bring the costume closer too. Here are my SimCloth setups: http://www.rdnmultimedia.com/eias/Tio.mov http://www.rdnmultimedia.com/eias/Tio.zip

Apu, I don't know that small units would inevitably cause problem but if I remember correctly, VERY small polygons from a group (like your 1 unit arm) could be problematic. The idea is why chance it? I usually work with models 100 units and over. In this case, I think the problem was that you scaled the arm 20 times and SimCloth had to "guess" the position of every polygons (after deformation) of your arm. Exporting the arm at 20X the original size removed this calculation for SimCloth and the results where more accurate. This was an educated guess and it worked... :)

I just finished splitting and texturing a Dosch car model today that will be use in a training DVD on car extrication for firefighters. I simply couldn't try a test render without a little logo added...

I'm sure your clips will be worth watching!. I cannot find the "Underwater Universe" Show on history.com nor history.ca but it airs un the UK... http://www.history.co.uk/shows/underwater-universe/about.html Available on DVD here: http://shop.history.com/detail.php?p=103873&v=history_dvds-and-books_pre-orders#tabs Maybe next season in Canada...

Many good points here Rob. I'm sure the owners are well aware of other products pricing and what they offer for the money. Changing EIAS price vs today's market value is certainly one of their big preoccupation. Bring enough money in to keep development going while getting the user base happy is not an easy task. I hope other users will voice themselves with positive suggestions like yours. Everyone likes free stuff… But asking a little money for educational materials, shader presets, base models, ready rigs and more could be worth looking into. Downloadable Quicktime Tutorials for slow connections seems a good idea. The EIAS3D Web Gurus will certainly look into this. (Have you tried contacting Lance Evans directly at Graphlink.com about your 3DNY product not shipping? He usually is efficient fixing these problems)
