I was doing some renderings with Sky Maps and Global Reflection and I loaded a bunch up and went thru them one at a time. It would have been useful if I could expand the list down in order to see the whole list the way you can with the materials settings. Makes turning them off and on easier. SH:idea:

In the World Info, I am trying to tell the difference between the 2nd tab (global reflection) and the 3rd tab (Raytrace, Reflection Sky Maps). Seems like the two do the same thing. What I am trying to do is have a global reflection for select objects and not on others. I have turned off global reflections in the material settings for the objects that I don't want a global reflection.

Hey Tomas, Just curious, what extra info was added to the .fac format in EI8? Was this new info sent to FormZ? I have brought up to FormZ that sometimes I am unable to open .fac files in formZ. This has only happened in past 2 years. FormZ said they would fix this.

Hey Scott, How is it to work for clients overseas? I am curious to know how you go about writing the contracts and getting paid? Do you use a third party to help the process? Steve

Hey I have been playing around with creating a robot that has an IK handle. It uses three bones. Is there a way to rig this guy so that the green hand will stay parallel with the floor. I want the robot to move around while the hand stays flat. I saw Ian's 2bone rig but the hand doesn't stay flat. Here is a snap.

Nice work. You went to EI's strengths. I would have kept the camera moving as the first part is really cool.

I could really use this workaround. So I gave it a test on a problematic Dante file. After a crash, I changed the rendered img file's name and then double clicked the .ccn file. It opened up camera but it did not start to render. I could pause camera so I know it was working. Is there anything else needed? (BTW, you can not just go back into Animator and pickup the animation after the crash because Dante will just start at "its" beginning). [A temporary workaround for this problem is to rename the rendered file then restart Camera's CCN file by double-clicking on it (it is in the EIAS v8 folder). Continue this rename/restart procedure until the project is fully rendered.]

Well said guys.

What kind of shadows are you using on the light? The second one looks good.

Hey Felix, I just did this test and I think it looks OK. Had to use raytrace shadows with the enable transmission setting. http://intuitionusa.com/1/flesh.png There is 1 tutorial on the site called "Raytrace Shadow Transmission". You know I think the OpenGL preview in EI looks very much like flesh if someone can figure out how to render it out.

Scaling issues with children of parented ojects
S. Houtzager replied to antknee's topic in EIAS General Forum
I have found it very dependable when I parent everything to a null and scale the null. You can set in the preferences that items come into EI with inherit scale already checked. -
Cool. You know EI should allow you to sell the DVD on the EI web site. It would just make it easier to get the word out.

Hey Alanzo, Are you sure this file has any weight maps. I am unable to find any. I am attaching a snap. The character icons are buried in this file so it is a little tricky. http://www.intuitionusa.com/1/maps.png

V1.5, gotta get EI8.

I appreciate it Alanzo!

I have set up a skeleton bone set for a human model and want to apply weight maps to it because the mesh is a little funny in certain areas. Is there any tutorials or info on what a weight map should look like on a character? I have some deformation around the stomach and butt that I really want to get rid of.
-
Have you taken a look at weight maps? You paint a weight map along the edge and then use the color of the map as the reactive color. There is a video tutorial on Coloripium on the web site.

Nice work. Is that GI and Photons I see?

I have been playing around with SimCloth and am amazed with it. I was wondering if anyone have figured out a way to get the cloth to lock into place. I tried to just export the plane and reimport, but it just imported flat. I want a tablecloth or bed spread that hangs on the edge. btw, the SimCloth download needs to be on this page http://www.eias3d.com/downloads/

Hey can someone sneak a peak at this file of a simple strength map test. http://www.intuitionusa.com/1/skin.sitx I attached the bones in the project to the strength map (i think). I do not see any effect of the strength map. SH

You could just use Quicktime to view the img files. You need to install the quicktime component first. http://www.telegraphics.com.au/sw/

Rhino doesn't have the rulers on the windows, just a readout of your location. I use Rhino and FormZ both and they are both great programs. I use Rhino for my really organic projects that need to be precise as well. It is great for product design. I like formZ for doing architectural and interior work. It is much easier to manage big projects with FormZ as there are so many ways to move and adjust objects. Both are excellent quality programs with great tech support. Bonzai is FormZ's entry program and is where FormZ is heading so give it a look at!
