EIAS Plugin/Shader update status
fantomaz replied to thingmaker's topic in EIAS Plug-ins and Shaders
Hi all, hm, is Scratches 1.0 not 64bit safe? I tried for a long time this plug again, but every time camera64 crashes... When using camera in 32bit mode, the rendering took too long, way too long! In other words: how can i get the look of brushed metal for a dial of a watch? The look has a name: sunburst. Here is a example how it has to look: Greetings Alex -
You can do it with XP: set the visibility to 0 at a specific frame. Or you can keyframe it -> change the project window to frame mode and klick in that green triangle. You can see there in the cells the visibility is ON or OFF. At your specific frame add a keyframe and change the cell to OFF. Don't forget to fill up the following cells with OFF :-) hope that helps Alex

Converting an '.easm' file from Solidworks
fantomaz replied to fantomaz's topic in EIAS General Forum
Hi Thomo, :-) are you sure, that SW can read .easm? That would be superdupercool... Every format that EI will read is fine ;-) ok, OBJ, STEP, Rhino, FACT all are fine :-) Can i sent you the file via mail? Alex -

So no news on the conversion process, Steven tried but had also no luck. Is there someone with his/her fingers on a SolidWorks computer and can do me a favor? Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaase :-) Alex -
Converting an '.easm' file from Solidworks
fantomaz replied to fantomaz's topic in EIAS General Forum
Hi Steve, unfortunately its not the .asm file, its the .easm file... .easm stands for exchange and view without having SW installed, you need only the eDrawingsViewer from Dassault for that (free of course). But lets give it a try, my Rhino don't want to open that .easm (because ist the beta), maybe you have the full version and that will open it? I sent it to you via mail. Alex Edit: That damn autocorrecting drives me crazy! Steve = Steven I have to learn that! -
Hi all :-) a customer sent me an '.easm' file from Solidworks. So far so good, i can view the file with the eDrawings Viewer from SW but cant do anything with that file :-( The customer had to check the box „Export for STL enabled”, but he didn't and dont want to - too bad. So i have two options: 1.) Find someone who can open the file (i guess you can open that '.easm' file in SW!) and convert it for me :-) 2.) I remodel that whole thing to get a working polygonal file to use in EI :-( I prefer the first option :-) Is there anybody out there? Greetings Alex

Hi Thomo, its easy: after you did a collect files, just quit EI and go to the folder where all the original files are located. Rename that folder (Project_old f.e.) or put it to an other location. Or you can ZIP that folder (but it can take a long time if the folder is huge!) When you now open EI again and open your collected project, EI will ask you where are all the needed files are. Just point EI to the specific files, do a save and you are done. After that, you can quit EI and rename/remove/unzip the original folder/files to what ever you want, EI will now use the collected files/maps/models etc. Alex

Hey, thanks guys! It looks like the other designers have more 'network' on their side, some designs are really good, but some are, hmm, more funny ;) But they have more than 25 votes, i can't believe.... Alex

...rendered of course in EI: If you want to do me a favor, you can vote for my designs. The watch with the most voters will be built in a small series. Here ist the voting site: Design #172 Design #173 Design #174 Design #175 Design #176 Greetings Alex

Some of you asked me, what i am doing right now. Well, a lot of house work (making floors, painting walls and so on). But a friend of mine, he is a watch maker with a small business in making his own watches, asked me, if i can help him a little with a video he was working on. Of course i can ;) Because he knows, that i am a watch collector, we talked about different kind of watches and i showed him a special one (for me): He fall in love :) So he decided to built a small series of this old watch with a new movement and a self made case, dial and hands. While he was working on the watch, we talked a lot about it.... Some day he asked about 3D and the benefit of 3D in watch making, so i helped him with some information. But i could not resist to play with the 3D files ;) , this time the whole clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsPlLcswg5w Have fun Alex

The music is nice, who did it? Alex

As i said before, you can get a copy of MAX legally, when you can tell that you a are a teacher 'somehow'. I did this several times and did some lessons in the school of my daughter to show them the 3D world. The guys at Autodesk had no problem with me (i am no teacher in real life). What you do with your copy afterwords, its then up to you ... Alex

Try to not use the .img format when rendering - use QuickTime f.e. or a single frame format, TGA f.e, and then import this picture sequence. Which AE is on your machine?

Occasionally i had this on a Mac too, but no pattern was visible – Mac only network. But also no solution for this and it was VERY-VERY rar. Sorry for not helping, but PC users are not alone with this. Alex
