rodlord Posted March 11, 2018 Report Posted March 11, 2018 I am working with a HUGE environment in my current project and constantly struggling to keep the polygon count down. I am wondering if there is any way to reduce the polygon density and detail of a model on or after import ? My instinct tells me I cannot escape simply building a simpler, more crude model from scratch ... but just thought I would ask in case anyone knows of some magic ! Cheers Rod Quote
davidwu67 Posted March 11, 2018 Report Posted March 11, 2018 You could import the model into Blender and use the Decimate modifier, apply then export, using .obj https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/modeling/modifiers/generate/decimate.html Quote
joseph56 Posted March 12, 2018 Report Posted March 12, 2018 There's also Lightwave 30 day demo which has this: https://docs.lightwave3d.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=1856437 Quote
Tomas Egger Posted March 13, 2018 Report Posted March 13, 2018 Ola, Northern lights3D have a LOD plug-in, but I never used in a real production.. Thanks Tom Quote
Paul P Posted March 14, 2018 Report Posted March 14, 2018 The latest Cheetah 3D (Mac only program) also has a simplify function, which reduces polygon count. This may also work. Good luck. Quote
fantomaz Posted March 14, 2018 Report Posted March 14, 2018 Don't forget Polytrans from Okino, imho the best way to reduce polys. Alex Quote
maher Posted March 17, 2018 Report Posted March 17, 2018 Rhino 3D (Mac and PC) also have a reduction of polygons tool. Quote
