Ian made a tutorial about ocean waves in the defunct Paralumino Store. I'm pretty sure it had info about the creation of foam. I think it was called Bodies of water or something. I'm sure Ian will pitch in with more info...

You can do it with Noise Factory instead of the other reactive shader in that tutorial (it has a black and white reactive mode for the gradient)...

As Paralumino has now closed, I can probably make those tutorials free, I'll contact Brian and ask...

I do like the idea of having an ocean socket based on that open sourced project. But i understand it might not be that easy.

by the way are we calling plugins ...plug ins or sockets. i still like the old term of socket. makes EIAS different then other apps that way. is there an official line on this ? just curious as always.

right but they are sockets... right... don't tell me they are plugins that will make me unhappy.

sockets always made more sense to me then the plugins ever did (thanks adobe). :-) thanks for clearing that up for me.

Sockets it is

Just FYI: You can use the HOT with the apprentice addition of Houdini, export the source grid to obj and export an mdd file. That can be imported into EIAS using the new mdd plugin. I've done it with Modo, should work with EIAS.

Hi, Thomas.

Sorry, should have said so. Exported from LW as MDD, rendered inside EIAS, rendertime 28 min 34 sec, average frame 11 sec, It could probably be optimised a bit, since I mostly don´t know what I am doing in EIAS :-/

really nice to see these types of discussions. I am rooting for the success of EI and all its new initiatives....

Uploaded the file to Mediafire, we´ll see how that works out.

A couple of notes: The MDD folder goes into the Sockets folder.

And I removed a reflection map from the Reflectivity tab in the Ocean shader, so that would have to be replaced to match up to my render.

Looking forward to seeing your results :)

Nice one, Thomas:)...I figured caustics would be to taxing for my system so I left them out. Now all we need is some foam. Think there is some possibilities in the LW HOT toolkit for bringing out map sequences that would help with that, just have not had time to play with it yet. Been to busy trying out Bullet in the Carrara 8 beta and exporting FBX to EIAS.....

The material I used was one that came with EIAS, found in the Glass folder (think it was "Lagun"). Just tweaked it a bit to serve my purposes. The file was pretty much as I rendered it, except the reflection map I mentioned.
