I know Brian Pohl had to do with their creation Steven... I have not spoken to him in a while but I would GUESS that he may still own the rights to them in some way or else EI im sure would offer them eventually for sale. Im happy that they are updating the existing ones to 64 bit.... looking forward Im happy that EI seems to be so aggressively modernizing itself... I hope to talk to Brian again soon and if there is anything im 'allowed' to say regarding these tools ill share it... but I want what I know or share to be positive, I make my living with EI and want nothing but the best for it moving forward.

nice.... Tomas.... EI does so many things at the highest quality... it blows my mind... its not MY style... but to see EI do this in the "real world" production environment is so exciting!! I pray for EI and its survival... its such a strong product.

closer... just think of a ribbon being led in circular directions, like ballet ribbon work.... im going to take a chance with it later this week...
-
thats the problem.... right now I have to accept or not accept this project and I was hoping someone had tried this before, I dont want to accept this project with a 'maybe I can' after this weekend if I dont get the project ill look into it and play around some... Scott

I will have time to look into this in a week or two but I have a client asking me about something ive never tried in EI... can I attach a highly meshed ribbon shape to - say - a null - and animate that null to wrap around an image or just loop around the screed with the ribbon following it and 'looking like' a ribbon... or fabric? client wants a bid quickly so im posting this... I briefly looked in samples but can not see if simcloth or new v9 EI is capable of doing this. Thanks in advance....

ironically im simulating a machine that does not appear to antialias the output on its display screen so that will help as well. I appreciate the comments guys. -
Wireframe rendering questions - help -
supernovavfx replied to supernovavfx's topic in EIAS General Forum
got it.... DUH.... I should have thought of that... thank you Aziz. -
I have a client who is providing me with a relatively standard looking round diamond that needs a wireframe visual effects treatment. it was a dxf file that seems to import fine into v9.... but I dont do much of this so I cant see what to do to get what I need. for example, you can check "cull back faces" and THAT comes very close to the look i need... BUT I cant see how to animate that... the wireframe renders the ENTIRE wireframe.... are there plug ins or settings anyone can turn me on to. OR does the model itself need to be prepped differently... not a dxf but maybe an obj? This is a job going on THIS WEEK so any tips would be appreciated... I am reading all I can and trying lots of things... just have not gotten there yet.... ill be compositing this and overlaying graphics in AE... thanks.... and im still loving the new EI! I cant wait to but my logo right in the line of the BULLET physics engine... :) Scott

the "expert" on this according too a number of web sources is a guy on ebay known as MACVIDCARDS he provides the 'hacked' nvidia cards for macpros 3.1 4.1 and 5.1 mine is the 2008 8 core 3.2 ghz machine with 32 gigs of ram and the nvidia 8800 gx card.... he offered me 80 bucks for that. He marks up the cards about 80 - 100 bucks for his work on them and he provides the instructions those of us non programmer types can follow to get it working on our machines. He has sold a ton of these and even had them benchmarked on the site Barefeats.com great customer satisfaction from my research... you just need to know what monitors your driving.... I need a dual dvi version of the card for example. I wish I was more techie with this stuff but I cant do it all. I use AE HEAVILY and its new ray tracer is 'cuda' accelerated greatly among several plug ins... I am running 10.7 and nobody has reported any issues with this set up. I am only commenting on the video card aspect. The guy also has a website... just google him or find him in ebay.... he returns emails pretty well... that and the accelsior card from OWC are the top two things you can do IN MY OPINION to squeeze some nice new life out of our machines... another 12-24 months in my case i hope. Im waiting to start a new project in Jan and im going to follow through with the upgrade... ill report back and of course im hoping for a much more responsive EI experience as well.... not render times obviously, but overall zippiness I expect that.... going from 512 ram to 1.5 gig of ram should do SOMETHING better... i hope... but for around 350 - 400 you cant beat the bang for the buck....

im going to be adding an Nvidia 570 card to my Mac Pro in January and following 'directions' lol... to make my 2008 mac pro accept it and start up fine. This will make my Mac, technically a 'Hackintosh' and I cant imagine EI not working even better with this card given the memory and speed. The reason these cards work is because Apple 'secretly' supports them anyway. Other "hacks" I have not heard anything about other hacks... ill report back in about a month or so...

thats taylor made for some 2d plugs...

OMG..... LOL... sorry... that is GREAT!!!

what am i missing 'atlantis' how is saving 3 minutes... but using all 8 cores 10 x 'faster'? shouldn't 8 x the cores result in about a 2 minute render?

or been improved or the SAME as v8 regarding displacement maps... and in MY motion graphics case... animated displacement maps that can really make for some great effects. Im so far from a programmer that I never quite understood why this was hard to program. I will test and attempt hundreds of things without asking questions.... but in this case Tomas or the Igors... how do we now best accomplish true displacement on geometry from greyscale quicktime or image maps... thanks in advance...

I am on a MacPro with 32 gigs of ram and looking to replace my puny nvidia 8800gt 512 mb (no cl no cuda) with the Nvidia GTX 570 2.5 gigs of ram 480 cuda cores open cl etc.... What if anything will I feel or see with EI and this card... or is there a recommended card for EI.... I know Cuda is not a help.... but tons more memory cant hurt.... Thanks in advance... Scott

I'm Here In Los Angelas looking to promote EI!!
supernovavfx replied to supernovavfx's topic in EIAS General Forum
I live right outside LA myself as well but work from home... just trying to see who else may be using v8 or v9 in the area and see if it grows and may lead to some kind of relationship.... -
is there anyone else out there in the area for me to connect too? Im looking to see if I may have a local EI network or friendship..... thanks.... :)

i promised Tomas I would 'play nice' LOL so here are a few of my thoughts about the 3d app I love the most... MOGRAPH is where the 'users' are... visual effects etc.... EI had the architectural "car" crowd a while ago as far as tools go... the new dynamics for a car is an amazing kiss on the lips for car animators... not a full fledged modeler... BUT... update ubershape to include lathing and maybe another basic modeling technique or two... allow us who concept on the fly to add decent shapes quickly. ANY animation assistants or keyframe effects... sorry to say "copy" but look at Pro Animator from Zax and how you can take groups and have them react to commands... amazing time savers.... what may be too hard to do.... fluids... simply make your connection to real flow ROBUST and tested..... sounds like your doing this... but either INTEGRATE or refine the existing KONK plugs... lastly... and right now most important to ME is a rock solid displacement tool.... image to mesh.... reliable displacement on objects... ability to auto adjust a mesh to accept the requested displacement. any other connections to After Effects is a bonus.... also if you could import Cinema 4d files you would literally rock their world..... Promotion... some of us in LA... (ME) are ready to get EI back into the conversation with support from EI management... its up to you....

last question on this.... when Camera V9 uses just one core (such as renderama using 8 cameras on a machine with 8 cores) is Camera 9 faster than Camera V8 is?
-
thank you Tomas... i KNOW that i dont get 8 x the speed :) but I DO get a much better overall render time total..... I see.... I just set the Camera to one core.... its still REALLY GREAT to have my 'working' test renders FLY so much faster which leads to faster overall job performance.... I wonder if setting 2 slaves to 4 cores or 4 slaves to 2 cores would make any difference.... the whole app just feels and reacts so much faster on all levels!! great job again... :)

first comments on my situation #1- 95% of my work is rendering 30 - 900 frames 1280 x 720 on average resolution. I use an 8 core MacPro #2 - I have tested a number of my v8 scenes with v9 I have seen a nice performance increase initially. All positive. #3 - 90% of my FRAME renderings average 3 minutes to 15 minutes PER frame.. (depending on project obviously) #4 - I have seen speed increases but NONE of them come close to 7 or 8 times faster than the V8 Camera. QUESTION Can I still set up renderama with 8 slaves just like I used too and have them each operate on a core just like in V8? it still seems to be be my fastest option for rendering my animations. I have read the manual and it explains adding multiple MACHINES to renderama...not multiple slaves per core on ONE machine... help please. Scott

that is FANTASTIC Tomas!! Congratulations again.... I can't wait to creating animations so much faster than before... my clients already love the speed of EI v8.... very happy!
