  1. Great News..... any chance the real flow plug in could be refined to be fully functional? Id be willing to pay hundreds just for that alone working reliably... my most wasted purchace has been real flow... but its my own fault... I just dont have the hours needed to get anywhere near as good as I am in EI... in ANOTHER 3d app... so I stubbornly pray and sit willing to 'pay' :) very happy your upgrading the old plugs... thanks for that!
  2. sorry... if it matters... it looks like im getting 30fps antialiased smooth phong playback... not sure how to measure if its FASTER than 30.... :)
  3. I have just some animated deformations and what not... and it is AMAZING Tomas! near real time or faster... if I remember right, frames during a deformation bog down... I have no "huge" files I'm working on like you car guys or architectural guys but im LOVING this fresh productivity from the EI TEAM, from ME with a new gtx 680 card and ssd 960 gb pcie card! Getting a 2 gig ssd raid in about 2 weeks... ill go broke but im addicted to the speed! That OWC pcie ssd card has 2 6gps esata 3 ports it comes with so external ssd can fly at full 6gps speed... my dream system is that new Mac Pro... 128 gigs of ram 2 fire gl cards 4 terabyte ssd raid via thunderbolt 2's 20gbps capabilities... 12 cores 24 cameras 32 bit or 12 cameras at 64 bit and 8 gb of ram per camera.... ( if thats enough ) or 4 64 bit cameras at 30 gb per camera!! lots of options..... plus... rumor rumor... apple just discontinued their thunderbolt 27 inch display today... Im guessing the rumored 4k display with thunderbolt 2 ports and 31" size!!!!!
  4. ill check... i GET handles if i set a middle keyframe and move it... and some get it and some don't... im guessing because its just 2 keyframes and the motion path is straight I cant seem to force out a handle. in adobe illustrator there is a tool you use to click and drag on one of the 2 points and drag out the bezier handle... ive always had goofy work arounds to get handles... so im laughing at myself for never figuring it out.
  5. a robust amount of additions and features continue to make me, and im sure others, impressed with the product and its development!! Cheers and thank you all for your hard work!!!! Sincerely, Scott Novasic Supernova VFX
  6. most every time im animating something over the years, the 'bezier' handles appear at the keyframes for me to tweak the motion path. when i simply set 2 keyframes.... how can i FORCE those handles to appear... im frustrated but also laughing that I cant figure it out. I read the manual and cant seem to find something on that.... in the past id sometimes set a third keyframe which sort of 'forces' those handles to appear, but then I have a more complicated velocity curve. simple help from anyone pleeeeeease.... Scott
  7. things were so fast i was having camera errors that Tomas helped me with.. placing a few cameras on different disks. Now that I have an internal SSD raid... :) I keep all my slaves on IT and had a couple frame errors at first... then it seemed to settle down... lol.. its funny how 'inexact' computers can be. Experience, we all seem to agree... is best... frustrating at times but worth it in the long run. Loading the cameras with the scenes, with some nice sized maps, was nearly instant! Camera appeared to be rendering a frame quitting and reopening each frame it did but not registering any stats on its screen... it was odd... but still so fast as for me not to touch it. I used all 8 cores so my machine bogged down a bit... that could have something to do with it. Learning Learning Learning.....
  8. Brian... the performance of the card works on a bunch of levels for me... it handles screen performance and open gl great but dont forget CUDA it has a huge amount of CUDA cores which accelerates a ton of things in After Effects which to a huge amount of us animators is a critical tool.... my plug ins and system performance flies. Personally, I hope Open CL which apple is pushing, gets support, because unless it sucks eggs ill be getting a new mac pro later this year and its dual ati cards will force a lot of software makers hands in the GPU game IF apple does not offer a choice of nvidia or ati.... Most of us work on a SYSTEM... not just an APP.... my geforce 8800 card was probably pretty easy to kill performance wise... but im still thrilled for all the OTHER things that now fly... (an ssd as well is helping a ton)
  9. I have the 680 mac edition and its much better spec wise than the 4000. The web site that tests this stuff all the time is barefeats.com
  10. OHHHHH.... THAT button... yes. So when you click 'set optimal' it goes to 8? that is just wild to me. But I believe you. Im guessing 7 just taxes the system less than 8 does... im looking for a good 2nd machine to work on when my main rig is rendering. And this $2100 i7 iMac is way too good of a deal to pass up. Im not asking you to answer Steven, but I wonder how my 8 core mac pro does vs the iMac quad with hyper threading.... 3/2ghz 3/4ghz both 32 gigs of ram.
  11. thanks Steven... what button are you talking about? have you 'tested' it with 4 vs 7 cameras?
  12. on a Mac... a QUAD core i7 (imac) can I run 4 cameras? or because of hyper threading can i run 8 cameras and see faster renders 32 gigs memory
  13. EI rocks with this card Tomas.... the ssd helps a lot as well... but EI always was snappy to open... I just get great playback and can view more things shaded etc.... on a side note... My Reel was viewed on Creative Cow and Today I just got offered a great opportunity for some consistent national tv work here in Hollywood... I did samples for them and got the gig.... I hope to use EI a lot for this really fast paced show... ill know a lot more later this week as the details are ironed out... could be my biggest gig, fingers crossed... :)
  14. Wondering if EI can take advantage of the dual workstation gpu's that the new mac pro is coming with standard. It seems like the trend is to leverage the power of the GPU's with the multiple processors in a machine with ultra fast ram and even ssd drives 2.5 x faster than standard ssd's. Not being a programmer, is it a complete re write, or a possibility to have EI / Camera take advantage of that speed.... or is it multithreaded cpu's only. I already see how awesome EI is with my new gtx 680 card as far as previewing and its now a joy to move around in huge files.... but is more to come or am I just nuts... lol... :)
  15. No... Felix... im kinda known as the Motion Graphics EI guy over the years. Hardcore 3d apps I have struggled with. One of the original members of the EI group was Zax Dow.... his tools and his constant support for EI even to THIS DAY with his invigerator modeler gets all the credit. I dont mean to get too wordy... lol.... like i tend to do... but thanks to Zax who I met almost 20 yrs ago, and who's EI classes I flew to Boston Ma to attend... I would be clueless with 3d. I still am clueless with Maya and some other apps ive "tried" to learn.... Zax lives about 10 miles from me and knows my EI passion... lol... but he has also hired me to do some invigorator samples and 3d flag samples... there are so many MEGA cool niche 3d products doing flags... water.... particles and 3d that over time ive learned to be a strong compositor....using the best tool for the job... but EI is my CORE.... I really hope Tomas and the product can remain viable in the years to come. I use Zax and my good friend Brian Pohls Lathe plug in (Paralumino) its hard out here not only using the tools but meeting the people who love and create things... your never the same after meeting them in my opinion. I wish I could meet Tomas and the Igors some day.... but Los Angeles is probably not on their travel list... :)
  16. not sure how the compression will kill this image...
  17. you mentioned that to me Tomas and its a great recommendation.... I never knew much about PNG. other than my screen capture shots are auto saved in that format.
  18. I thought I replied.... I am running EI on Mountain Lion almost daily without any real issues... very happy in general.
  19. im using AE in mountain lion and saving uncompressed all the time. The animation 'codec' is uncompressed at its highest settings
  20. very nice, I use the AE version of Psunami and composite things in post.... I never could get the EI version to give me feedback fast enough to be practical.... if there is a 64 bit version that would be nice. Trial and error in learning these tools must be much more reasonable in V9...... of course id love a step for step working link with realflow most of all... I know there was one before but I could not get it to work or realflow to acknowledge it.... nice work looking scale and all...
  21. im looking for maximum performance with what ive got... what things... if anything besides opening the app.... which happens fast anyway.... would a blazing fast SSD drive do to help speed up our 3d workflow with EIAS
  22. interesting that After Effects can read .img files fine but cant output them? ill look into that png thing... if its lossless and smaller thats a bonus
  23. I have a pretty simple project with some close up letters that have complex beveling... these letters make 4 -6 second moves across the screen. On an ubershape plane is a very hi rez ANIMATED file ( 1500 x 2500 ) the letters are made out of glass and the intention is to refract elements of the huge movie within the letters. I made the movies in After effects and compressed them using h264 codec so their size was manageable 250mb roughly.... but I got errors in most the renderings... some made it farther then others. I sensed the h264 codec may be confusing EI and imported the original uncompressed movie file as a map. Then Renderama performance with this change was half working.... 4 cameras seem to be working 4 just errored out. if anyone knows why based on my description.... thank you.... the uncompressed map is almost 2 gigs large..... is that too big? Scott
  24. im old enough to remember the EI guys walking around MacWorld San Francisco like rock stars in their EI leather jackets... but would not display there... you had to go to their room at the Mariott which I did... I felt like a groupie... lol... im so incredibly proud to have been included as one of EI's Featured Artists just a few years back. After reading this interview I feel even better about EI going forward. Tomas... you came across VERY well and solid as the new owner of EI. I forwarded that article to all my mograph groups and 3d LA groups I belong too... and got some interesting people coming out of the woodwork to comment fondly on EI.... Tomas... its clear to me you have a REAL opportunity here... the cg community is STARVING imo for an alternative to c4d in mograph... the fact that you modernized the import of the major formats was inspired and a GREAT decision. It allows ALL 3d users a 'chance' to consider integrating EI back into their workflow. Nice start and congratulations... I hope all your hard work pays off for you in many ways....
