  1. To answer you're question at hand...... You need to have a "U" shape in the DOF shader. The bottom of the U being what's "in focus" and the tops of the U being out of focus. (it could be reversed, I just can't remember) FYI.... Yes, Correcting the Gamma in EI is good, also in Photoshop if you want to use the "Exposure" adjustment. The only problem is, It won't work in ALL cases because the Gamma is not on the sub pixel level and therefore, some textures could become inaccurately represented. But that's very rare. So, Definitely use the shader! But if you do run into a texture problem (too much red or something like that) it may be due to applying the gamma AFTER the render.
  2. Just opened one of my bigger scenes..........it was AWESOME!!!!! Many thanks to Tom and the engineers to make this update possible!!!
  3. Keep in mind, this is not like when we were using camera 8.0! Now with the 64 bit architecture, the only reason I see leaving some of the cores out of the camera is to have some CPU available for working in Photoshop or something like that. With Camera 9.0 it just uses all your cores as 1 CPU!!!
  4. Do you have a polygon modeling program like c4d? 3d max? silo? If so, you can select the polys you want and detach those of the object making 2 pieces. I have to do this ALL the time with models I purchase.
  5. I guess this question should probably be directed towards the egors....... Would an ATI (AMD) card perform better with Electric Image hardware acceleration? Or would an NVIDIA card perform better. I keep seeing that the AMD card might perform better with open GL (which is what I'm assuming EI is using) I'm just trying to get EI to redraw a little bit better with the large textures in shaded mode (for mapping purposes) and handle my large scenes better in wireframe or shaded modes (5-8 million polys and up). Right now the ONLY way I can handle my scenes is by putting it on point cloud and closing all the other windows except my view finder and (only if I have to) one other window for a front, side, top view. Just trying to sort all this out :shy:
  6. Thanks for the reply.....So, do you see a big difference in EI? I know in a game it would be amazing but does EI handle lots of polys and really big textures because of the better card? Just curious if it's worth the money since it's supposed to be a gaming card.
  7. Hey guys, Just wanted to ask you guys what kind of cards you may have popped into your Mac Pros? Now that the EVGA is out with the 680 I'm wondering if that would be better in the EI environment than the NVIDIA Quadro 4000. http://eshop.macsales.com/item/EGVA/02GP43682/ http://eshop.macsales.com/item/PNY/VCQ4000MACPB/ Any thoughts? If you're using one of these cards, do you see a performance difference in EI? Thanks, Brian
  8. Awesome find! Thanks for posting Tom.
  9. Thanks for the clarification Tom! Quick follow up question..... It seems like the gamma doesn't effect the material "color" only "maps". I used a color swatch as my texture and it came out perfect. But when I put that same color (same RGB values) into the material "color" it came out wrong. I'm usually using gamme 2.0 or 2.2 Thanks
  10. It seems like EIM is still the best program for tessellation. Anyone know of anything else that's as good? I'm still on Snow Leopard just because of that program!
  11. Yes, I noticed this too.....Tom, I just haven't had a chance to send you a test yet but I will! (Really busy)
  12. Works great! but we have more computers than we have Ethernet ports. Any problems with rendering through the wifi? Did a quick test over wifi and it seems to be working well. any known problems?
  13. WORKS GREAT! THANKS TOM! THANKS! THANKS!!!!!!!!
  14. Trying to get 3 computers connected to Rama for rendering out an animation job. Can get 2 computers working through a direct connection however, when the computers are connected to a router (Apple airport or Linksys) the computers will communicate through Mac OS (screen sharing, file sharing and so on) but Rama won't send the job. The error is.... An error was encountered at slave Mac-mini-1.local:1616: Couldn't access slave machine But like I said, if I connect the iMac to the mac mini directly it works. Why would this be?
  15. Thanks Tom. Just sent you an email.
  16. I'm uploading the image for you to check out. The eiz looks perfect in EI but when I bring it into PH it looks black. Just not sure what I'd be doing wrong. How can I upload the images to you?
  17. Let me go ahead and explain further..... The Z-depth image will open just fine in EI. Looks perfect. When I bring it into Photoshop (CS3) it's just black. I'm using the EI Image plugin for Photoshop (for CS2,3,4). I just don't know why it wont show up in PH.
  18. Hey guys, It's been a LONG time since I used DOF. For some reason when I render out my Z-depth layer it looks great in camera (for the split second that it shows up after render) and then when I bring that layer into Photoshop it's just black. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? I also tried shutting off alpha for the Z-depth render. Thanks. -Brian
