Igors
Hi All Yesterday we worked with one of bug prjs and we've noticed the scene is loading slowly. Animator's windows appear Ok but then we see a delay like 10-15 seconds. It's slow for the scene with 3.5 millions of facets on Intel Mac 2.66. Also we see Animator eats almost 700 Mb of RAM. We tried to learn where is a bottleneck. In this concrete case it's preview of textures. There are 699 textures "applied" in the scene. Absolute most of them are same textures applied to different (duplicated) objects. So in fact the prj has only 20-30 "original" textures (or less yet). However, Animator's texture preview is not optimized, so all 699 copies are loaded (no matter most of them are same). Note also that with optimized textures preview it's possible to have their preview sizes larger. Now any texture is downsampled to 256x256, this simplified image is used for OGL or software preview. Often it looks very blurred We would like to see this improvement in EI9 User Pack
Tomas Egger
Ola, I totally AGREE. Thanksss Tom
Ian
Hi Igors, I also totally agree, I had no idea this was possible, though I did know that Animator uses a lot of RAM (and will crash when it loads a project requiring more then 2GB of RAM - with no warning). An excellent idea Igors, Ian
RichardJoly
Igors, you should get an UPto9 icon for this one... I thought the size of the largest map used in a project dictated the amount of memory required, not the sum of all maps.
FelixCat
Great idea, Igors. Many time ago I did an animation of some asteroids falling to Earth from deep space. Earth was 3 simple spheres (terrain and atmosferics, clouds et al). But the Earth map was huge (arround 200 Mb), because at the end the asteroids and camera were pretty close. Something that your idea could be great. This and the mdd idea are making my day. Thanks FelixCat
