supernovavfx
I have a super simple setup of a floor and a wall with an image on the wall. I want the image on the wall to reflect down onto the floor which is the easy part. I'm surprised after all these years i never needed to do this, but here is what I'm having trouble seeing if I can do.... I want the reflection in the floor to fade out gradually to nothing \ the floors texture.... I've seen this in other software but forgot what they labeled it. I played with some settings that I thought would produce that... but I figured id give someone here a chance to help me on this. thanks Scott
joseph56
Some kind of bitmap image with an alpha in the reflection tab and then turn down the map maybe? I found some other stuff(Lightwave stuff) here: http://books.google.ca/books?id=nLSVKEavyPcC&pg=SA11-PA62&lpg=SA11-PA62&dq=how+to+make+a+reflection+fade+in+3d+program&source=bl&ots=r1aVNkni2c&sig=eBBcYw6FmhjDHAnSKjI5THgCoWw&hl=en&sa=X&ei=ZgG3U6XtJs-lyAST84H4Bg&ved=0CCoQ6AEwBA#v=onepage&q=how%20to%20make%20a%20reflection%20fade%20in%203d%20program&f=false
supernovavfx
I actually thought of that... but did not try it yet... I think ill give it a shot, - using a gradient in the reflectivity channel - if that works it would be great because it would be fast and not much of a render hit. Tomas Egger
Ola Scott, If I understood well, its quite simple, you need only to apply a Ramp texture in the floor as a Reflectivity Map, I used here an AG_Ramp shader in this sample project. Reflex.zip Hope that helps Thanks Tom
supernovavfx
I knew it was simple... for some reason I never put together in my head that a black and white ramp in one tab would affect the overall reflection, bitmaps and all... like a clipping map does or an alpha channel. Can I load a bitmap in if I want a stylized reflection... ?
joseph56
How would you get the circle reflection to fade out and will it work if there is a texture already on the floor?
Tomas Egger
Ola! The ramp map or ramp shader only works in the attenuation of the reflection in the floor, it will work fine with already applied textures. This is a simple ramp, you can even build stylized ramps in Photoshop. Thanks Tom
