meester smeeth Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 Hi there Anybody have much luck with reducing polygons on objects without losing the basic form of the object? I'm basically trying to merge co-planar faces. I'm having the best luck with transporter, but I can actually lose faces too. Thanks a lot Al Quote
AVTPro Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 You may need to use a modeler. I think most modelers have a poly reduction feature that allows setting the outline and the surface reduction. I use Zbrush Deceminator (as it is call decimation by other apps) or Maya modeler. Quote
Tomas Egger Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 Ola, Northernlights3d have LODe Stone http://WWW.northernlights3d.com/Products/products.html Thanks Tom Quote
thingmaker Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 Hey Al, I have used LODe Stone in the past but now I use Atengo's Balancer which allows you to select and reduce polys in select parts. For example you may have a figure with a dense poly count only in the facial area but the rest is pretty low and you don't want to reduce it globally by 50% which would distort the body. http://www.atangeo.com (mac & pc). -Derryl Quote
Tomas Egger Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 Ola Derryl! Good tip! Thanks Tom Quote

Thank you! Diego Quote
Thomo Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 Yes I'm going to try that for sure. Never knew you could with UV's too. Thanks a lot! Quote
fantomaz Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 Polytrans from Okino does this in a very fast and robust way. You can use a slider from 0-100% for the whole model, or you can do it for parts of that model. In most cases you dont loose the overall shape of that geometry - evan when you reduce to 1% .... but than it looks very quirky (of course). Alex Quote
