Camera MP

Ola my friends,

We thought we'd give you an update on just one of the things we're doing behind the scenes. We have started testing builds of a multi-processor aware Camera. All ray-tracing is now MP aware (including Global Illumination, soft shadows, blurry reflections, Photons and so on). Although the first results look promising, there is still a lot of work ahead. Up to now it's only a Mac build, so our next task is to move multi-threading over to the Windows platform.

We'll keep you informed, so stay tuned for further updates.

Thanks

The EIAS3d Team.

Only started testing? Gee, you'd think it was complex or something (there's a smile in that, so no shooting!). Can't wait for the ability to really zing my renders along and push this 8core puppy to it's limits. May have to rethink the whole arctic chilling of the processors, but hey, if you can't take a little heat....don't render!

Thanks for the update; keep us posted.

I'd be interested in knowing how this Camera will behave regarding reading and writing scene and temp files while rendering. At my job we have just bought an hexacore Mac Pro to replace our old G5, fitted with a RAID 0 set of two SSDs (plus a RAID 0 of three hard drives. Overspecced, I know, but we plan to keep it for some five years or so): being in the middle of a job, the thing is still half-configured, but we tried an After Effects comp of several IMGs and RPFs which went from eleven minutes in our old G5 to just 36 seconds!!! Camera ought to fly on SSDs. I plan to try a few old EIAS projects on it to see how it goes (wasn't there some benchmark project around?).
