bwcc
Does anyone have experience using Okino PolyTrans to covert Models for EIAS? I'm looking for a good solution to export from Modo and convert to FACT. It can import an obj or lwo and export to FACT. It will also import SolidWorks and export to FACT for EIAS or IGES & SAT for EIM. any other ideas would be welcome. thanks, brian
Tango
Hi Brian, I don't use Modo and consider Polytrans to be the swiss army knife for geo conversion. It is good and expensive. I model with Silo which exports FACT format geometry. When I need to convert, I do it with "Transporter" (which comes with EI or "OBJ2FACT" (from Ramjac, but they may not be in business anymore). You should also check "Meshlab", it's free and can handle a lot of formats. Unfortunately it won't export FACT, but it is useful. fantomaz
Hi Brian, we use PT since a couple of years and are extremely satisfied. Not only the number of geoformats PT can handle, also the suppport is very well. At the first look all the PT-windows are a bit confusing, but after a while you see, that many of these possibilitys are very helpful in the conversion process. And the export to fact is extreme fast, even with millions of polys. The investment of around 400$ is worth every penny and since the Intelmacs can run Wndows, we dont need an extra PC. fantomaz
rtrowbridge
I mainly use EIAS as a hobby, though at work I do use it to create some nice 3D line art images. There's no way I could justify having my employer buy Polytrans, so I use a shareware program called Accutrans3D. It is a great converter, and well worth the $20.00 shareware fee. It doesn't export FACT files, but I use it to convert objects to Collada, and then run that through AutoDesk's free FBXConverter software. The objects come into EIAS with their UVs intact. I just have to reapply the maps. I'll have Accutrans open and work my way through each object, adding maps as needed. Ross Hi Brian, we use PT since a couple of years and are extremely satisfied. fantomaz
Hi Fantomaz - Do you use Parallels, VMWare Fusion, or something else? Which version of Windows are you using? thanks! brian Hi Brian, i use bootcamp from Apple, there is no extra app to buy, it came from Apple and works under 10.4./10.5./10.6. The Windows version is a normal WIN-XPpro, it came with an old PC i bought years ago which is now in 'hardwareheaven', but the systemsoftware XP runs fine on the Intelmac Quad 2.66 GHz since 2 years. I installed it on an "old" 250GB harddrive in slot 4. You can find unused/new WIN-XP at eBay for less than 40$/€... Of course you have to reboot when you want to use WIN, but once or twice a month its ok (in my opinion...;-). fantomaz
