  1. How animate/toggle the visibility of an object so it can be replace suddenly in an animation by another completely different?

The only way I can do that is to start 2 successives animations by toggling on/off my objects and stitching together the rendering. But there is an Animate Visibility box in the object properties but I can't find a way to automate the appearance/disappearance of an object in the time line...

  2. Hi Maher,

The uv's are contained within the model file (someone correct me if I'm wrong on this) and the .mat provides material attributes and groups info, both files are read when importing into EIAS. I haven't looked at Silo for quite a while but I believe there was an update for v2? I will try to investigate when time permits.

    Thanks Ruben,

I solved part of my problem a few days ago. I was exporting my OBJ after sorting my UVs on the basic low polygons mesh version but after refining my model mesh. It look like if the UV and mesh density doesn't match, EI Animator discard the UV of the imported OBJ.

As for the .mat file, I never succeeded to bring any color or surface attribute in EIAS both from OBJ files from Rhino, ViaCAD or Silo.

  3. If EI doesn't not scale down natively on a MacbookPro Retina, it's probably clear either that it won't do on a 5K Retina iMac. It's strange that Apple doesn't offer that native resolution as a choice on all UHD screen. It's one of those many decisions that Apple forced on their customers based on the premise that they knew better then us what we need. Or may be they're afraid that the underpowered video cards they often put on their machines will have some hard time dealing with those huge amount of pixels.

The weird thing is that some reports pretend that an UHD that Apple doesn't officially support will sometime display at native resolution (and people complained that they cannot read text the menu bar)...

Anyway, those 5K iMac will pretty soon hit the AppleStore and the clients, so  we will have a clear answer to your question.

  4. There is a checkbox in the OBJ file format of Silo for importing and exporting UV. Both are checked by default.

When I export to OBJ from Silo, I get the usual 2 files : the .OBJ and the .MAT. It is not clear to me in which file is the UV data. When EIAS is importing an OBJ file, does it process the .MAT file automatically or should we treat those files separately in Animator Material window?

I own Rhinoceros and ViaCAD 3D; I'll try the OBJ import/export of those to try to figure it out.

    Thanks,

  5. Imagine if the text on this forum was half the size it is right now. Yes, the project window would handle lot more elements, but it won't speed your workflow if you need to look at it with a magnifier glass each time.

It would probably be more effective to use a second monitor just for the project window, one that can rotate in portrait mode to display a maximum number of lines.

  6. I've bought Silo a year ago and I'm starting to learning it seriously.

The FACT file format export doesn't work at all and I've found that the OBJ export work well with Animator but no success with textures or UV mapping.

Is there a secret trick or a plug-in that I should now in order to bring UV and textures in Animator?

    Thanks,

  7. Sorry for the delay,

I can confirm that Paulc is right. My 15 inch MBP retina is supposed to have a native screen of 3840 x 2400. But, when I set it to display the most space and I resize the EIAS project window to fill the screen, I can drag that window to my external 27 inch Apple display (2560 x 1440) and it won't fill the screen.

The effective resolution is 1920 x 1200 (pixels are 2 x 2). But, on a 15 inch display, even such a lower effective resolution made the text very small and I'm sure it won't be of any use to really work at a native resolution of 3840 x 2400 on a 15 inch screen (or at 5K on 27 inch display). Those mega resolution only make sense on a much bigger screen or in a video or picture windows that display very HiRes content.

  8. they have been doing that mac in development thing for years wonder how long till its finished

Don't complain : as long as the beta Mac version is under development, it's free ;-)

I've purchased the PC version long ago, but didn't open it in the last few years… The Mac beta is pretty functional.

  9. Well, forget about the DJI Phantom :  the camera body only weight 12,5 oz, but with a Metabones Speedbooster and the lens, it will be certainly too heavy, even without a gimbal.

I was considering a DJI S1000 but the company have such a bad reputation about customer service that I cannot afford to wait months and months before they fixes issues on a DOA unit...

  10. OK, I can reproduced it now.

It look like we cannot have secondary rays in Global illumination with sky light enable and at the same time photons database set with GI and secondary.

If I uncheck one of those (sky light, or GI secondary or photons database for GI & secondary), I get rid of that strange triangle pattern.
