Hi Steven,

 

If ithe model comes with UV's normally have a bitmap that you can adjust in Photoshop.

 

If not you can bake the texture object in a program like C4d, on this way you have a bitmap texture tu fine tune in PS.

 I'm not sure if it will work with-out texture but,  you can try the new TextureFilter.shd wich is reactive to vertex colors it allows you to control RGB, Saturation, and Value.

Do you have a polygon modeling program like c4d? 3d max? silo?

 

If so, you can select the polys you want and detach those of the object making 2 pieces. I have to do this ALL the time with models I purchase.
