DONGLE question

I need to migrate my EI v8 to my imac which has no apps on it at this point... except what came with the computer. Its running os 10.6.7

here is my question... do I need any special items installed in the Imac so the dongle works? is the 64bit issue a problem with the dongle?

thanks... im in upgrade hell for the next week or two... so all the help is appreciated...

I can stay with this setup until the much anticipated release of v9... hopefully sometime this year yet... we will see.

Thanks.. :)

Hi Scott,

I am using the 27" iMac with the core i7 processor running OS 10.6.6 with EIAS v8.0.

There are no real special requirements that I am aware of. I just opened the EIAS 8.0.0.dmg and installed as per instructions.

I have had problems with photon file corruption when merging projects. I have a project file that has OnyxTree .fact files that I have applied UV's to and when I merge it into my architectural projects it messes up the Database values in the Photons section of the lights I have set up in the scene I am merging into. This causes the "Emitting Photons" part of Cameras calculation to max out and give an error message. I just dump the photon files, re-set the Database values in the photon's section of the lights, re-do a snapshot and then render. I will have to post this bug for the EI team so it can get fixed.

Renderama seems a little unstable also. I sometimes will have to create a new Slave folder with a higher IP address. I'll be using say 192.168.0.198:1622 and it will all of a sudden crash and never launch camera again so I make a new IP address of :1623 and it will work for a while and then crash and never launch again. A little frustrating to watch the other camera's working away and then having one not start up again for no real reason.

One thing I have learnt to do when using photons is to try and exclude as many groups (polygons) as possible to reduce the photon maps size otherwise animation frame rendering times can be painfully large. For example I put OnyxTree models into my architectural renderings and because the trees are outside I exclude them from the internal area light which will normally reduce my photon map size from 70MB to 9MB. Saves a whole lot of time emitting photons during camera's rendering process.

There is another issue (Tomas is reviewing my project file on this) that I am experiencing using photons in my animation but wont know until Tomas looks at my project. Intermittent frames have different brightness levels causing a flashing affect straight out of EIAS. Frustrating and unpredictable and I'm hoping it's something in my setup.

I don't know if these are specific to the iMac, otherwise I find EIAS v8.0 on the iMac i7 stable and good to work with. Hope this helps.

Find below here links to my internal renderings created with this setup.

Ola Michael and Scott,

Scott, only our latest EIAS 8 installer with the dongle drivers provided inside it will be enough.

thanks Michael.... I have the renderama issue happen every once in a while... not sure why, but when I go back in and re number the slaves Rama seems to work fine again... i dont complain or report it becuase it is annoying but an easy fix... im lazy that way... if i figure out a fix I just move on...

thats in os 10.5.8
