  1. Having trouble getting a model from Form Z to EIAS 9.1. The model comes in but it will not smooth shade. I have tried several export faceting options and formats. Depending on the export, the model will have some areas smooth but always some areas where the faceting is visible. any idea? thanks brian
  2. I wouldn't want it to auto save automatically... it would have to a preference setting. In Modo it works well. You can set it to save incremental files as often as you want, or it can be turned off completely. EIAS is stable but if you work a lot with plug-ins it crashes on a regular basis.
  3. I tried this a while back and received some positive feedback... While we all appreciate the hard work in the 9 and 9.1 releases, I thought I would try it again. These are meant to be minor UI adjustments that would improve productivity. One item from the previous list was adopted (reveal in Finder). I also added few. - if any of these have been implemented and I am unaware - please let me know. 1. allow user to make the deformation list box bigger (like texture map box) 2. ability to reorder deformation region up to the top position 3. single button that turns off and on all deformations for an object 4. highlight entire animation line (key frames) when object is selected (see after effects) 5. ability to select animation channel of an object to highlight the channel key frames 6. raytrace shadow radius should be a ratio of the distance to the reference. If I animate the position of the light, the softness of shadow would remain consistent. 7. fog should be related to camera position (as it is now) but have the distance relate to camera reference position. as the camera is animated the fog distance automatically animates based on the camera reference. 8. global light adjust. In the render menu, a factor to adjust all light intensities in the scene. maybe it's better to put in the "World" menu so it could be animated. 9. ability to adjust the opacity of background image in camera window. we can adjust the opacity in the map window which is seen when rendered but not in the preview. 10. auto save 11. redo 12. automatically search for missing files, have EIAS copy and paste the name of the missing file into the search field of the import dialog. 13. a single window to hold snapshots that can positioned and always rendered into (see modo) - apparently this is more difficult than it seems, I kept it on the list because it would be so awesome. 14. preview a texture map from any channel (specular, transparency, etc) in the camera and projection windows. 15. preview of blend modes, texture map blur, layers in texture map window 16. ability to select which channels are applied when using master materials. ability to place a texture on a specific model while using a master material.
  4. can you tell if the culprit is PPP or MrBlobby? I always have to render the PPP by itself (with blobs turned off) to see if it is working correctly - Before rendering the animation I think you have to run the entire simulation (just the PPP object) so it will write all the frames to the PPProPreviews folder. I always do this when rendering with Renderama, not sure if it necessary when rendering on the local Camera only. In PPP there is a check box in Preferences/Preview Method/Advanced - this is supposed to recalculate each frame previewed in Animator based on the simulation.

  6. In EIAS 9.0 there was a "import FACT" option in Add Object menu. In 9.1 it is gone... This option would bring up the Import Options to merge groups, calculate normals etc. for FACT files. It still works for other formats, but how do I get the "Import Options" when adding a FACT file? thanks, brian

I have a simple plane linked to Blobmaker - it looks good in the camera preview but it renders differently Is there anyway to get the preview to match what is rendered? - Normally it works like expected, but when I use (Source: #Blobs, K) it renders a different model than what is previewed. http://www.brianwhite.cc/temp/blobmaker.jpg thanks, brian
  8. I have done something similar using morph targets. The model (steps) were created in Modo using vertex maps - the exported obj files will maintain consistent polygon and vertex counts but for some reason when the obj files are imported into EIAS it will adjust the number of vertices. I think it has something to do with the shading angle. If you are using morph targets, I can post more details about getting the vertices consistent. brian

  10. just curious - what does it do when click the link? it is a QuickTime .mov (H.264 mpg) are you on a mac or PC? can you try to right click on the link then download the file? let me know what you find out. thanks! brian
  11. Tailor Tool will do this, but it does not work at all in EIAS 9. (EIAS is aware of this) It works well in 8 but if the model that is getting sliced is very heavy (lots of polygons) it gets really slow.   13. I am almost ready to upgrade from Snow Leopard (10.6.8) to Mountain Lion (10.8.3) are there any issues with EIAS or with any plug-ins? thanks! brian
  14. As far as I can tell, the subscription so far is only for Creative Cloud which is like every app they sell. I only really need PhotoShop, Illustrator, and After Effects. I wonder if we will be able to buy (not rent) individual apps. bw

I'm thinking maybe he is talking about Adobe going to an all subscription model for CS6 moving forward (now called Creative Cloud) - you don't buy the software you pay $50 per month (30 for existing customers) - If you always buy the updates when released, it's a good deal. If you buy a version and then skip updating for several years it will be more expensive. It also makes it more difficult to pirate. https://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud.html?promoid=KCHGQ You can still buy CS6 but I think moving forward it will be all subscription. I haven't heard about how they will handle individual apps. brian
  16. I can't get Tailor Tool to work at all. 64 bit Camera gets an error: SCAL Error ID: 2 Error number: -1 32 bit Camera renders, but all object are rendered in the "not enough RAM color" the same scene works in EAIS 8
  17. I have ViaCAD Pro - it's ok, I'm trying to transition from EIM so I can go to OS X 10.8 - still not as good as EIM. I know Rhino is coming out for but OS X, it looks good. The betas I have downloaded look a lot like ViaCAD, maybe a little easier to use but not sure it has much more functionality. bw

  22. it doesn't really work, because the transparent areas are distorted based on the refraction - hopefully it will be in 9.1?? The alpha rendered in phong doesn't align with what should be transparent in the RT. thanks brian
  23. I have asked about this in the past, but it's been a while and the EIAS rendering has been improved recently. Is there any reason why ray traced transparent objects won't render with an alpha channel? I think last time the answer was that no app could do this. I know Cinema4d and Modo can. thanks! brian
  24. http://brianwhite.cc/temp/Project9_47.jpg the shape is smooth - its just the color transition when the source models are different colors and Blobmaker is creating the transition. I edited the colors of the source geometry to make the problem more obvious. brian
