  1. I did this some time ago but never finished - until now.

Modeled in EIM and rendered in Animator.

I have another five and I will try and post one a day for the next five days.

  2. I am attempting to use the proxy plug to generate instances of geometry. I have followed Ian's tutorial to the letter and the plug works fine for the first proxy - but when I duplicate that proxy one, (and only one out of several,) texture will not stick. I have tried to do or undo every checkbox i can think of concerning that texture to no avail.

After five hours of total frustration I am finally giving in and asking for help.

What's worse is that this is a commercial job with a tight deadline.

    Mike.

  3. This is almost finished. They will pay me to do some changes so I have a chance to re render all of the clips. So let me know what I can do to get this to go on the EIAS3D gallery.

    Vic.

The last time we see the guy in the yellow shirt he looks as if he's not connecting with the ground. No shadow.

    Other than that very impressive!

  5. Curious as to what you guys think of this?

    I think it's great!

Been using Blender to model with after the confirmed demise of EIM, and am very impressed with it as a package. 2.5 really spiffed up the interface and a lot of the workflows, plus the new particle systems are amazing (when you consider the price of the app:).

I'm really enjoying the integrated approach to modeling, texturing, animation and rendering.

It has got a good UV editor as well, and this alone alleviates a lot of the problems encountered with EIAS.

Still prefer the look and feel of Animators renderer - the thing that originally attracted me to the app - but as these links point out there is a lot going on in the Blender community, and a ton of tutorials online.

Hope V9 does a lot to narrow the gap, because for a free, open source application Blender kicks butt!

  6. Yes. I worked on it.

Well, I just wanted to thank you!

As someone who still uses it regularly I can say that there are some things in it that still blow the competition out of the water.

The real shame is that it didn't continue to be developed so that some of the other parts could have been bought up to the same standard.

Anyway, I think it is a testament that it still runs (with some hiccups) on my Intel machine after many OS updates.

Are you able to say if it is any stage of development now?

    Thanks,

    Mike.

Mike, Firstly, thanks for your kind comments about EIM. It was a joint effort by many at EI, and had many good interface ideas from people such as Jay Roth, Matt Hoffman and several other developers at EI. Though I do take credit for EIM, I was only a rookie developer who helped bring it to life. There were a bunch of loyal EI users who critiqued and beta tested the beast before it was tamed and became useful.

Tesla was a follow on planned to EIM. However due to various constraints, it is dormant. Mainly, I am responsible for its dormancy and will take the blame.

Brad Parscale of EITG, made a good effort to revive it, but to bring it back to the world at the levels where it would be able to compete with the rest of the modelers who have been in development, is a momentous task that requires deeper backing and commitments. Sort of a David / Goliath analogy. Yet, I will say that comments on this forum have been very encouraging and who knows what might happen.

Tomas has done a magnificent job in bringing EIAS back to life again. His passion for the product is contagious. His positive thinking will take this package back to its glory days. I am not directly involved with EI, I have a full-time and a half job, I am but a supporter and well wisher, and in the coming days/weeks/months will try to make a contribution from the sidelines.

    Cheers.

    Kishore

  7. Sonica was intended as Maya plugin, however makes sense to bring it out as EIAS plugin as well. Although I am not fully sure how one can do it with the same generality as was possible in Maya. Any feedback is welcome. To be truly useful any sound attrib should be able to drive any animation channel..i will discuss with Tomas on possiblities

Hi Kishore, are you the guy who did the programming on EIM???

    Mike.

  8. I just did today a bit of EIM modeling. Oh how I wish ViaCAD and the like were as carefree and easy as EIM in several respects. And that EITG would have managed to update it (at that, any news about Brad and company? How are they faring lately?)

Funny, I was working in Modeler just before I saw your post and was thinking exactly the same thing.

In the past a question like this has usually generated a response from Ian saying something like 'It's an ongoing project.'

I wonder if it still is?

I find Viacad so unintuitive compared to Modeler as well.

    Michael.

  9. Ola Michael,

Hope its what you are looking for, please, look the manual:

    Thanks

    Tom

Tom, just a quick question. I have a chess set with each piece a complex set of objects in it's own right. All of these objects have their own textures - a lot of them utilizing Mforge.

Will the Proxy plugin work in a situation like this where you have the main object with many children, all with textures? Or does it just work with a single object?

    Thanks,

    Michael.
