Pixar open-sources its parallelizable SubD algorithms

Pixar’s encouraging performance – by giving away the good stuff

"OpenSubdiv is a set of open source libraries that implement high performance subdivision surface (subdiv) evaluation on massively parallel CPU and GPU architectures. The code is optimized for drawing deforming subdivs with static topology at interactive framerates. The resulting limit surface matches Pixar’s RenderMan to “numerical precisionâ€."

I wonder if this would be conducive to EIAS ever providing Encage-like functionality out of the box.
